Feud over maintenance fees leads to fatal stabbing

GEORGE TOWN: An alleged feud between two men over maintenance fees of an apartment block in Bandar Baru Air Itam, near here, resulted in the fatal stabbing of the management board chairman.

The body of Liew Kum Thong (pic), 33, who was also a Penang voluntary patrol member, was found in a pool of blood near the garbage disposal area at the Taman Sri Idaman apartment at about 8.30am yesterday.

His assailant was believed to have used a 10-inch knife to stab him several times.

Penang Hospital senior consultant forensic pathologist Datuk Dr Bhupinder Singh said that Liew was stabbed seven times – three times in the back, thrice in the abdomen and once in the face.

Police detained a 60-year-old suspect, said to be a resident who had a grudge against the victim, when he went to the same hospital for asthma treatment at about 5pm.

George Town deputy OCPD Supt Ismail Toh Paduka Idris said investigations showed that the suspect had waited for Liew at the garbage collection area with the knife hidden in a sling bag.

It is believed that Liew had tried to escape after the attack but collapsed and died after walking for about 50m.

“The suspect returned to his second floor unit and then fled from the apartment,” Supt Ismail said.

Penang CID chief Senior Asst Comm Mazlan Kesah said that the victim was believed to have had a dispute over the suspect’s maintenance fees, which allegedly had not been settled since early 2011.

SAC Mazlan said that the police had obtained a CCTV recording and will investigate the case as murder.

Haha, agreed. Very hot argument.
